I picked up this book while visiting my friends Sheri and Brooks. I love my book-reading friends. There’s always a book that you see or something they recommend. Malibu Rising is a recently published book (2022), and a best seller, written by the same author who wrote Daisy Jones and the Six, which. became a pretty popular streaming show.
I have lived in Malibu for over 30 years, but I am not old Malibu. Thanks to my high school principal days, I know. many of the people who have lived here all their lives, and they are amazing. And they are not the rich and famous people that you read about in Malibu. They are hard working people who love Malibu for its natural beauty. I think they are unique and wonderful.
Malibu Rising captures old Malibu and the rich and famous Malibu. Some of the places are real, and some are invented. I’m guessing that a more experienced Malibuite will find all kinds of misrepresentations, but for me, I loved it. And amidst this backdrop is a tale of love, divorce, messy families, sadness, and triumph. The book starts at a nice pace and gets insanely crazy at the end.
It’s a perfect summer reading book.
